- Jefferson Airplane was a pioneering American rock band based in San Francisco, California.
- Formed in 1965, they are credited with defining the San Francisco Sound.
- They headlined several iconic concerts, including the Monterey Pop Festival (1967), Woodstock (1969), the Altamont Free Concert (1969) and the first Isle of Wight Festival (1968).
- Their 1967 album, Surrealistic Pillow, was one of the defining recordings of the Summer of Love.
- Two songs from this album, "Somebody to Love" and "White Rabbit", are listed in Rolling Stone's "500 Greatest Songs of All Time".
