- "Streets of Philadelphia" is a song written, composed and performed by Bruce Springsteen for the 1993 film Philadelphia.
- It was used in the opening credits and appeared on the film's soundtrack that same year and as a single in 1994.
- The song was a huge success, reaching number one in some European countries such as France, Austria and Germany, and number nine on the US Billboard Hot 100.
- It won the Grammy Award for Best Song and the Academy Award for Best Original Song.
- In early 1993, director Jonathan Demme asked Bruce Springsteen to write a song for the film Philadelphia, then in progress, and in June, after the conclusion of the Other Band Tour, the singer-songwriter recorded it, providing almost all the instrumentation, with tour member Tommy Simms on bass.
- Saxophone and vocals by Ornette Coleman and "Little" Jimmy Scott were added and recorded but never used, except for the scene in the film where Tom Hanks leaves Denzel Washington's office.
- The clip, directed by Jonathan Demme and his nephew Ted Demme, shows Springsteen walking through the deserted streets of Philadelphia, interspersed with scenes from the film.
- It shows Rittenhouse Square, the banks of the Delaware River and the Benjamin Franklin Bridge.
