Boys Are Back in Town was written by Phil Lynott while on tour with Thin Lizzy in North America in 1976. Lynott was inspired by an experience he had in California, where he saw a group of young surfers. The boys were dressed similarly and all seemed to have the same lifestyle. Lynott then transposed this image into a song about a group of young people returning to town after a long absence.
