- In June 2019, it was certified diamond in the United States.

- Time magazine published a list of the top ten songs of the year in December 2015, in which The Hills was ranked sixth.
- It was also ranked tenth on Billboard's annual list and eleventh on Rolling Stone's.
- The week of its release, The Hills entered Billboard's Hot 100 chart at #20, the best debut of the week with 109,000 downloads and 5.2 million streams.
- By the October 3, 2015 chart, it reached number one, replacing Can't Feel My Face, another single by The Weeknd, making it the eleventh artist to self-replace at number one on the Billboard Hot 100.
- The Hills remained at number one for six consecutive weeks.
