They don't want to be the one to let their partner down by not providing for them or leaving them without resources. The protagonist also wishes they could be fake like their partner, pretending to have it all together. However, they contradict themselves by saying they are better off dead. Nonetheless, they still don't want to be the one to leave their partner without anything.
