The Irish Rover was a ship that sailed away from Cork carrying a lot of unusual cargo including bricks, rags, stone, horse hides, bones, hogs, and goats' tails. On board were a group of men including musicians and drinkers from different parts of Ireland. After a long voyage of seven years, only two survivors remained - the protagonist and the Captain's old dog, as the ship crashed into a rock and sank.
