The Beach Boys - Short Biography

The Beach Boys are an American rock band that formed in 1961 in Hawthorne, California. The original lineup consisted of brothers Brian, Dennis and Carl Wilson, their cousin Mike Love and their friend Al Jardine. The band is known for its vocal harmonies, teenage-themed lyrics and musical ingenuity. They are one of the most influential bands of the rock era, and one of the few American rock bands to have maintained its commercial position during the British Invasion. From the beginning, Brian Wilson was the band's composer, arranger, producer and de facto leader.

The song was first released on March 7, 1966, and two months later it was re-released as the closing track of the Beach Boys' "Pet Sounds" album. The lyrics, written with Tony Asher, reflect the reflections of a disillusioned man who remembers his former lover and the loss of his innocence. The song is musically distinctive for its use of jazz chords and the combination of unique instruments such as bass flute, 12-string electric guitar and muted harpsichord.
