The Specials - Short Biography

The Specials, a British 2 tone and ska revival band formed in Coventry in 1977, made a name for themselves by combining ska and rocksteady with the energy and attitude of punk. The band originally consisted of eight members, including singers Terry Hall and Neville Staple, and Jerry Dammers on keyboards. The lyrics of their songs address political and social issues. The band, also known as The Special AKA, delivered a unique sound and message that continues to influence young musicians to this day.

"Rat Race" is a ska/2-tone song by The Specials, released on May 16, 1980 by 2 Tone Records as a double-side with "Rude Buoys Outa Jail". The song peaked at number five on the UK Singles Chart and also made it onto the US Dance Chart. Although the single was not included in the UK version of the album "The More Specials", it was included in the US version, released by Chrysalis Records.
