Vanessa Carlton - Short Biography

Vanessa Carlton is an American singer-songwriter and pianist. She chose to pursue singing after completing her education at the School of American Ballet, performing in New York City bars and clubs while attending college. She signed with A&M Records in 2002, and her debut single "A Thousand Miles" reached the top five on the Billboard Hot 100. Her debut album, Be Not Nobody, was certified platinum in the United States. However, her subsequent albums Harmonium and Heroes & Thieves did not match the commercial success of her first album. She independently produced her fourth album Rabbits on the Run before seeking a record label to release it. Carlton also released a Christmas EP and her fifth studio album, Liberman, in 2015.

The song was written in the key of B major and composed with a tempo of 95 beats per minute. The song was produced by Curtis Schweitzer and Ron Fair and took 14 sessions to record.
