Al Green was born in Arkansas in 1946, and his family moved to Michigan when he was a child. He began singing gospel music in a church, but soon transitioned to secular music. In the 1970s, he became known for hits such as “Let’s Stay Together” and “I’m Still in Love with You.” Green also acted in several films and hosted his own short-lived television show. In 1974, he turned to preaching and recorded gospel albums. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995, and continues to perform and record music to this day. Outside of music, Green has been involved in philanthropy and activism in Memphis, Tennessee.
