Alexander O’Neal is an American R&B singer-songwriter who first rose to fame in the 1980s with hit songs such as “Fake,” “Criticize,” and “Never Knew Love Like This.” Born in Mississippi in 1953, he started singing in the church choir at a young age before pursuing a career in music. He moved to Minneapolis, where he met Prince and became a member of the Time, but left the band to pursue a solo career. O’Neal’s debut album, “Alexander O’Neal,” was released in 1985, followed by several more successful albums throughout the ’80s and ’90s. Despite struggles with addiction and personal issues, he has continued to perform and record music, releasing his most recent album, “Resurrected,” in 2019. O’Neal’s soulful voice and memorable hits have made him a beloved figure in R&B music for over three decades.
