Cartel de Santa is a Mexican rap group formed in 1996 in Santa Catarina, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. The group consists of MC Babo, Rowan Rabia, DJ Agustín, and Dharius. Their first album, “Cartel de Santa”, was released in 2002 and was a commercial success, establishing them as pioneers of Mexican rap. Their subsequent albums have also been well received and the group has gained a large following in Mexico and around the world. Cartel de Santa’s music is characterized by their explicit lyrics and themes of violence, drug use, and social commentary. Despite controversy surrounding their content, they have continued to release successful albums and tour extensively. They have collaborated with other Mexican artists such as Banda Los Recoditos and have also been sampled by international artists like Lil Wayne. Cartel de Santa remains an influential force in Mexican rap and continues to push the boundaries of the genre.
