Ignacio “Nacho” Anaya was born in Mexico in 1895. As a teenager, he started working in restaurants, eventually becoming a maître d’hôtel. In 1943, during a busy night, he improvised a snack for some American women using tortilla chips, melted cheese, and jalapeño peppers. The dish was an instant hit, and Nachos were born. Nachos became a staple snack food in America and gained global popularity. Nacho’s creation eventually led to the foundation of the Nacho Chip Company, who made and distributed the snack. Nacho continued working as a maître d’hôtel until his death in 1975. Today, his namesake dish is enjoyed in homes and restaurants worldwide.
