Stereolab was a British-French avant-pop band formed in 1990 by Tim Gane and Laetitia Sadier. They melded experimental pop, lounge, and krautrock, creating a unique signature sound. Influenced by the French pop of the ’60s and the motorik beat of German rock, the band released 10 studio albums and numerous EPs and singles before going on an indefinite hiatus in 2009. Despite critical acclaim, they never achieved commercial success, becoming more of a cult band with a dedicated following. Tragically, Mary Hansen, one of the band’s core members, died in a cycling accident in 2002, leaving behind a legacy of innovative and influential music that continues to influence artists today.
