The Monkees were an American rock and pop band formed in Los Angeles in 1965. The group consisted of Micky Dolenz, Michael Nesmith, Peter Tork, and Davy Jones. They were assembled for their eponymous TV show, which ran from 1966 to 1968. Despite initial skepticism, the Monkees went on to become one of the most successful bands of their era, with hits such as “Last Train to Clarksville” and “I’m a Believer.” While their early records were primarily produced by session musicians, the Monkees eventually took creative control, writing and performing their own music.
