“Cracker Island” by Gorillaz: An Intriguing Exploration of New Sounds

GORILLAZ BRAND NEW ALBUM CRACKER ISLAND

The virtual band Gorillaz explores new musical territory on this brand new album.

The concept album explores themes of exhaustion and disconnection, with the band focusing more on pop music this time around. And as always, Gorillaz has brought in a diverse set of collaborators to add their unique flair to the tracks, including Stevie Nicks, Tame Impala, Bootie Brown, Bad Bunny, Del The Funky Homosapien and more.

Damon Albarn presents the album to Zane Lowe in the second half of this interview

Throughout the album’s 15 tracks, Gorillaz tells the story of an abusive relationship between Murdoc and 2D, with Murdoc drugging 2D to recruit him as a member of Moon Flower’s cult, The Forever Cult. The album as a whole is a reference to the darkness in our world that people are all too familiar with and aims to make people dance.

The virtual band continues to push creative boundaries and explore new sounds.

Co-founder Damon Albarn has already spilled the beans on some of the stars he’s worked with for future projects, including Kate Bush and Billie Eilish.

“Cracker Island” does have its moments of genius. From the groovy guitar riffs in “Desole” to the haunting vocals in “Aries,” the album keeps listeners engaged with its eclectic mixture of genres. And with a focus on relevant topics like climate change and artificial intelligence, “Cracker Island” adds depth to the overall experience.

The virtual band remains an innovative force in the music industry. With their willingness to experiment with new styles and genres, there’s no telling what they’ll come up with next. Fans will just have to wait and see what Gorillaz has in store for us.
