At the age of 47.
Adam Yauch, also known as MCA, was a founding member of the iconic hip hop group, the Beastie Boys. He tragically passed away on May 4, 2012, at the age of 47. Yauch’s death was the result of salivary gland cancer, specifically known as parotid gland cancer.

Yauch was first diagnosed with cancer in 2009 after discovering a lump in his throat. He immediately underwent surgery to remove the tumor, and his illness caused the Beastie Boys to cancel several tour dates and take a hiatus from music. Following the surgery, Yauch underwent radiation therapy, but the cancer returned in 2011.

Salivary gland cancer is a rare form of cancer that starts in the salivary glands, which produce saliva. The parotid gland, located in front of the ear, is the most commonly affected gland. Symptoms of the disease may include a lump or swelling in the face, neck, or mouth, pain in the facial nerves, difficulty swallowing or opening the mouth, and trouble with facial muscles.

Despite his ongoing battle with cancer, Yauch remained active in music and the Beastie Boys released their final album, “Hot Sauce Committee Part Two,” in April 2011. However, due to his deteriorating health, Yauch was unable to participate in promotional activities for the album.

In 2012, Yauch’s condition worsened, and his illness became public knowledge. Unfortunately, the cancer had spread to his lymph nodes and other parts of his body. Despite seeking various treatments, including alternative therapies, Yauch passed away on May 4, 2012, surrounded by family and friends.

Adam Yauch’s death was a significant loss to the music industry and his fans around the world. His contributions as a musician, activist, and filmmaker continue to be remembered and celebrated.
