How did Bobby Darin die?

Bobby Darin died on December 20, 1973.

At the age of 37
Bobby Darin, an American singer, songwriter, and actor, died on December 20, 1973, at the age of 37. The cause of his untimely death was complications arising from a surgery he underwent a few years earlier.

In 1971, Darin had suffered from several health issues, including severe heart problems. His condition was diagnosed as rheumatic heart disease, which resulted in him needing to undergo a major surgical procedure. In an effort to prolong his life, Darin underwent open-heart surgery in January 1971. The procedure involved replacing a damaged heart valve with an artificial one.

Initially, it seemed the surgery had been successful and Darin’s health improved. He even undertook a comeback concert tour, performing with great energy and enthusiasm. However, in late 1973, he began experiencing health complications again. Darin was aware that his condition was deteriorating rapidly, and he consulted with his doctors who recommended further surgery to address the issues.

On December 19, 1973, Bobby Darin checked himself into Cedars of Lebanon Hospital in Los Angeles for another round of surgery. However, the following day, before the procedure could take place, he suffered a sudden and fatal heart attack in his hospital room. Despite immediate resuscitation efforts, Darin could not be revived, and he passed away later that day.

The exact cause of death was determined to be ventricular fibrillation, a dangerous and irregular heart rhythm that can lead to cardiac arrest. The surgery that Darin had undergone two years earlier, although initially successful, had not fully resolved his underlying heart condition. Ultimately, the complications from his initial surgery and his ongoing heart issues led to his untimely death at just 37 years old.
