The song All Along The Watchtower was written by Bob Dylan and first recorded by his band The Jimi Hendrix Experience in 1968. The title refers to the Bible, specifically the watchtower mentioned in the scriptures. Dylan composed the song after reading the English translation of the King James Bible. He then recorded an acoustic version of the song, which was included on his 1967 album John Wesley Harding.

The Jimi Hendrix Experience recorded their own version of the song in 1968, which was included on the album Electric Ladyland. Hendrix turned the song into a long electric jam, adding guitar solos and sound effects. Hendrix's version became more famous than Dylan's original version and is often considered one of the best covers of all time.
