The protagonist's friends ignore the fact that our consumption affects both humans and animals, and instead attack him without addressing the issue. They play on his insecurities and feign ignorance, but the protagonist sees through it and thinks they are selfish. He wants them to call him out on his mistakes and grow together to make the world a better place.
