The song helped LL Cool J break through, as it became his first top 10 single, reaching #9 on the Billboard Hot 100. "Around the Way Girl" was also a hit on the R&B and dance music charts, reaching #5 and #7 respectively. This success led to the song being certified as a gold record by the RIAA for sales of over 500,000 copies.
