- Created in 2003 by actor and playwright Erik Wernquist.
- Marketed by the ringtone supplier Jamba!
- The character was originally created to accompany a sound effect produced by Daniel Malmedahl.
- The sound effect was an imitation of a two-stroke engine.

- His most famous cover is Crazy Frog, released as a single on February 17, 2005 on Ministry of Sound.
- It is the first single from the album Crazy Frog Presents Crazy Hits.
- The song reached number three on the UK Singles Chart and became a worldwide hit.
- Crazy Frog's cover of Axel F was used in a 2005 advertising campaign for Ringtone.
- This campaign caused controversy, with some people believing that the "annoying" croaking of the frog was a form of noise pollution.
- In May 2007, the European Commission ruled that the ringtone was "too loud" and gave cell phone users the right to silence it.
- In December 2009, the crazy frog was retired and the character was replaced by a new one, the Jamster rabbit.
