- He has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Rockabilly Hall of Fame.

- He is sometimes referred to by his unusual nickname, the "Screaming End".

- The song's origin dates back to 1955, when Vincent was recovering from a motorcycle accident at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, Virginia.

- There he met Donald Graves, who is said to have written the song's lyrics while Vincent wrote the melody.

- The song caught the attention of Davis, who reportedly bought the rights to the song from Graves for about fifty dollars (sources vary as to the song's value).
