The song describes the protagonist who is in a loving relationship with someone who constantly tells her that he loves her, but does not show it through his actions. She is frustrated by her partner's lies and false promises. She demands that her partner be good to her if they are to stay together, and she has no time for their lies. The song was a big hit in the United States and reached number five on the Billboard Hot 100 and number six on the then-booming Black Singles Charts.
