The Verve - Short Biography

- The Verve is a British rock band from Wigan, England.
- The band was formed in 1989 by singer Richard Ashcroft, guitarist Nick McCabe, bassist Simon Jones and drummer Peter Salisbury.
- The Verve's most commercially successful album was Urban Hymns (1997), which reached number one on the UK Albums Chart and sold over five million copies in Europe.
- The band broke up in 1999, but reformed in 2007.
- In 2008, the band won a Grammy Award for their single "Bitter Sweet Symphony".

- The song was credited with helping the album reach number one in several countries and sell over 25 million copies worldwide.
- In 2010, "Bitter Sweet Symphony" was ranked the 10th best British song of all time by XFM.
- The song has been the subject of much controversy and legal action due to its similarity to the 1966 recording of "The Last Time" by the Andrew Loog Oldham Orchestra.
- In 2019, Mick Jagger and Keith Richards agreed to relinquish their rights to the song, allowing The Verve to retain the royalties.
