The song "Black Cat" is a song by the American singer Janet Jackson, released as the sixth single from her fourth studio album, Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation 1814 (1989). It was written by Jackson, who produced it in collaboration with Jellybean Johnson. "Black Cat" is a genre-bending song, combining elements of hard rock, pop rock, dance-rock, heavy metal and glam metal and featuring arena rock influences. Its lyrics deal with the problems of drug addiction and gang violence. It is the last song recorded for Jackson's fourth studio album and was composed when Jackson, along with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, wanted to include a rock song on the record.
