The Cure - Short Biography

- The Cure is an English rock band formed in 1978 in Crawley, West Sussex.
- Robert Smith has been the only consistent member of the band since its formation.
- The band's first album, Three Imaginary Boys (1979), contributed to the post-punk and new wave movements in the UK.
- From their second album, Seventeen Seconds (1980), the band adopted a darker and more tormented style.
- This style had a strong influence on the emerging gothic rock genre and the subculture that formed around it.

- It was written by band members Michael Dempsey, Robert Smith and Lol Tolhurst.
- In an interview with NME, Smith said he wrote the song because he was encouraged not to show his emotions as an English boy.
- The song was released in June 1979 and was included as a track on Boys Don't Cry, the American equivalent of Three Imaginary Boys.
- In April 1986 it was re-released as "New Voice - New Mix", in which the original track was remixed and the vocals re-recorded.
