The song is about the protagonist and his partner, who are dancing together. They wander through the night, seeking shelter and peace. The protagonist longs for the night to calm his joy, so that he doesn't end up like the weary leaves. In a dream, he sees a maiden dancing and when she sits down by a stream, a mist kisses her and disappears. This causes everything that was once fair and just to shatter into tears and broken dreams. The protagonist declares everlasting war and burns the pile upon which his partner is gathered, because she has been poisoning his heart. He vows to not be a humble slave anymore, but instead, be a king to his dreams. He wants to rise up and find refuge in a peaceful place.
