The protagonist is going to a family reunion in Oklahoma with his partner. They will be meeting up with relatives from Kansas and Arkansas for a big party at Uncle Slayton's place. Uncle Slayton is proud of his Texan roots and has an Asian wife. He still knows how to make whiskey and plays bingo every Friday night. The protagonist's cousin Roscoe comes from Illinois and is on his way to Texas, but gets into a car accident. Another couple, Bob and Mae, come from a small town in Texas and buy weapons from a knife and gun shop for fun. Ruth Ann and Lynn come from Kansas and are provocative in their clothing choices. Despite being related to the protagonist, he is interested in being intimate with them. Uncle Slayton sells land to people without credit and takes it back when they don't make their payments. They all have a good time at the reunion.
