"Criminal" is the fourth and final single from American singer Britney Spears' seventh studio album, Femme Fatale, released in 2011. It was written and produced by Max Martin and Shellback, with contributions fromTiffany Amber. After listening to the song for the first time, Spears felt that it was different from other songs she had heard before. On March 2, 2011, she posted a sample of the song online, prior to the album's release. Spears chose "Criminal" as her single through a poll on her Facebook page. The cover of the single was released on September 14, 2011.
