- "Cry to Me" is a song written by Bert Berns, the first version of which was recorded in 1962 by Solomon Burke.
- The song was covered by the Rolling Stones in 1965 on their album Out of Our Heads, as well as by the Pretty Things in a single the same year.
- Bert Russels (known as Bert Berns) came to prominence with Twist and Shout recorded in 1962 by the Isley Brothers and became one of the most used songwriters by the Atlantic label.
- Earlier, he wrote Cry to Me for Solomon Burke. The song was recorded on December 6, 1961, with Berns as producer and Claus Ogerman as conductor.
- The song was released as a single early the next year and reached number five.
- On the May 13, 1965 session at RCA Studios in Los Angeles, the Rolling Stones covered the song in a different version with a slowed tempo to sound more "Otis Redding" than "Solomon Burke."
- The song appears on the album Out of our Heads in 1965.
