Thelma Houston is an American disco singer, born on May 7, 1946 in Leland, Mississippi.

Her first album, Sunshower, was released in 1969, but it was in 1977 that she became famous with the title Don't Leave Me This Way, which reached the first place in the charts in the United States and Great Britain.

Thelma Houston began her career in the 1960s as a backup singer for Cissy Houston, Whitney Houston's mother. She then joined the gospel group The Art Reynolds Singers, before going solo in the world of soul music.
