- Rolling Stone magazine ranked him 20th on its list of the 100 greatest guitarists. He has won 10 Grammy Awards and three Latin Grammy Awards, and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998.

It was written by Clarence "Sonny" Henry and originally recorded by jazz percussionist Willie Bobo on his 1967 album Bobo Motion. In addition, the song was recorded by the band The Village Callers in 1969. The lyrics of "Evil Ways" are written in simple verse.
