Peggy Lee - Short Biography


- Norma Deloris Egstrom was born on May 26, 1920 in Jamestown, North Dakota.

- She began her career as a singer on local radio at the age of 16.

- In 1935, she moved to California to pursue her musical career.

- In 1938, she began singing with Benny Goodman's big band.

- She created a sophisticated persona, wrote music for films, acted and recorded concept albums combining poetry and music.

- She has been dubbed the "Queen of American Pop Music".

- Lee recorded more than 1,100 masters and composed more than 270 songs.

- Lee died on January 21, 2002 in Bel-Air, Los Angeles.
