The protagonist has been trying different things for forty days but can't seem to escape his sins. His sins keep bothering him until he dies and he can never truly leave them behind. He wants to know how his story ends, so he stays around even though he should leave. He tells his friends the lies he's learned, but when he finally leaves, he realizes he was never meant for this world. It's not worth it to try to make sense of things logically because it's absurd. No matter where he goes, he's not alone. When there's silence, he's reminded of why he's here, inheriting sins. Nobody can satisfy his thirst when he runs out of what he needs. And nobody will comfort him when he's dying. He's been judged for the sins he's committed and only then will he disappear to his final resting place. It's a waste because there are many good people at the gates who deserve better.
