- Alain Souchon wrote, composed and performed the song "Foule sentimentale" as part of his album "C'est déjà ça" released in 1993.
- The idea for the song came to Souchon during the Christmas holidays, inspired by the excessive spending and consumption associated with the holiday season.
- The song's lyrics denounce the emptiness of consumer society, with lines such as "We are inflicted with desires that afflict us" and "We are made to believe/that happiness is to have/fill our closets/make fools of ourselves."
- Souchon personifies his message through two celebrities of the time - Paul-Loup Sulitzer and Claudia Schiffer. Of the former, he says, "He had the talent to make money, but it's a bit empty to only think about that." As for Claudia Schiffer: "She was the perfect symbol of superficiality. She was on every magazine cover, she was all the talk, but she didn't say anything."
- At the end of the 2nd verse and the following chorus, Souchon uses the figure of paronomasia: "We don't take the head as soon as we are born/For asses as long as we are (A)/Sentimental crowds...?".
