"God Is Love" is a song from "What's Going On", an album by legendary American soul singer Marvin Gaye, released on May 21, 1971 on Motown records' Tamla label. The album was recorded in several sessions at Hitsville U.S.A. in Detroit, Golden World, United Sound Studios and the Sound Factory in West Hollywood, California. Interestingly, this is the first album by Gaye in which he is credited as producer, and Motown's in-house studio group, the famous session musicians known as the Funk Brothers, are also credited. This album set Gaye on the path to artistic independence and was a critical and commercial success.
