The protagonist is a musician travelling from Austin to San Antone with his boys and their rig. They face a speed trap but manage to continue their journey from the faraway Guitar Town. He had heard his name being called and followed that voice which led him to the lost highway. He loves the sound of his steel belts on the asphalt and whilst he has a habit and a tan, he plans to keep playing until he settles down and takes his partner back to the Guitar Town.
