"Half a World Away" is a track from "Out of Time", the seventh studio album by the famous American alternative rock band R.E.M. It was released on March 12, 1991 on Warner Bros. Records. The album brought R.E.M. massive international recognition, turning their status as a cult band into a global phenomenon. "Out of Time" topped the U.S. and U.K. album charts, spending 109 weeks on the U.S. album charts, with two separate periods at the top, and 183 weeks on the U.K. charts, with only one week at the top. The album has sold more than four and a half million copies in the United States and more than 18 million copies worldwide. The album won three Grammy Awards in 1992, including Best Alternative Music Album, and two awards for the album's first single, "Losing My Religion."
