The Temptations released a single called Happy People in 1974. It was their first single from the album A Song For You and was co-written by Lionel Richie. In the United States, it went to number one on the R&B chart and number 40 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. It also went to number 11 on the disco/dance chart. This was the first Temptations release without the help of Norman Whitfield since 1966.
