"Hard Luck Woman" is a classic hard rock song by the American band Kiss, released as the first single from their 1976 album, "Rock and Roll Over". Written by Kiss member Paul Stanley, the song was originally intended for Rod Stewart, but the success of their previous soft rock ballad, "Beth," decided them to keep it for themselves. Stanley cited his admiration for Stewart's music, especially "Maggie May" and "You Wear It Well," as the inspiration. However, it was the nautical-themed hit "Brandy" by American pop-rock band Looking Glass that was Stanley's main inspiration for the song.
