Iolanda Christina Gigliotti, better known as Dalida, was a naturalized French Italian singer and actress. She grew up in Egypt and moved to France in 1954, where she had her first big hit with the song Bambino. She performed more than seven hundred songs, in several languages, and was an important figure in French song. Dalida covered several musical styles such as twist, pop and rai and was one of the first French artists to perform disco songs with J'attendrai and Bésame mucho. Unfortunately, she suffered from depression and took her own life in 1987. Her tragic fate turned her into an icon.
