The song appears on his 15th studio album, Blood on the Tracks, released in 1975. The song is one of five that Dylan first recorded in New York before re-recording in Minneapolis. This last recording, produced by David Zimmerman, Dylan's brother, was used as the title track of the album and released as the B-side of the single "Tangled Up in Blue", released in February of the same year. The moving lyrics tell the story of a man trying to come to terms with a lost love, and urge anyone who sees her in passing to "say hello." Overall, "If You See Her, Say Hello" is a poignant and introspective song, showcasing Dylan's prowess as a songwriter and performer.
