The Five Satins are an American doo-wop band from New Haven, Connecticut. Their best known song is "In the Still of the Night", written by bassist Fred Parris and released in 1956. The group formed in 1954 as "The Five Satins", in tribute to the Ink Spots, and first recorded in 1955 for Ember Records. The song "In the Still of the Night" was released in 1956 and reached number three on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1957. The group continued to record and perform until the mid-1960s, before breaking up. The group reformed several times over the next few decades and continued to perform and record new songs.
