Louis Theroux is a British documentary filmmaker, journalist and television presenter. He was born on May 20, 1970 in Singapore to American parents, and grew up in London.

Theroux attended St Paul's Independent School in Barnes, southwest London, and then graduated from Magdalen College, Oxford, with a degree in modern history. He then took a year's sabbatical, during which he worked as a volunteer in a psychiatric hospital and as a radio reporter for BBC GLR.

In 1994, Louis Theroux was hired by the BBC to work on a documentary series called Louis Theroux's Weird Weekends. The program ran for three series between 1998 and 2000, and featured Louis Theroux traveling the United States to explore a variety of subcultures and lifestyles.

Louis Theroux went on to make a number of other documentaries for the BBC, including Louis Theroux's African Hunting Holiday (2003), Louis Theroux's The Most Hated Family in America (2007) and Louis Theroux's LA Stories (2014). He also presented the BBC Two series Louis Theroux's Weird Weekends Revisited (2007), which revisited some of the stories he had explored in the original Weird Weekends series.

Throughout his career, Louis Theroux has received a number of awards, including three BAFTAs. He has also written several books, including The Call of the Weird: Travels in American Subcultures (2005), Gotta Get Theroux This (2010) and When Louis Met the Hamiltons (2001).

Theroux is currently married to Nancy Strang, and they have three sons.
