The Carpenters - Short Biography

The Carpenters, an American vocal and instrumental duo consisting of siblings Karen and Richard Carpenter, were known for their distinctive, smooth musical style. During their 14-year career, they released 10 albums, numerous singles and several television specials. Karen sang contralto and Richard arranged and composed the music, until Karen's death in 1983.

"Johnny Angel" is a song written by Lyn Duddy and Lee Pockriss. Originally recorded by Laurie Loman and Georgia Lee, it did not become a hit until it was recorded by Shelley Fabares in 1961. The song reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1962. Patti Lynn also had some success with her cover of the song in the UK that same year. American pop duo The Carpenters recorded "Johnny Angel" in 1973 as part of a medley of songs on their album Now & Then. The song is a classic representation of early 1960s "bubble gum" pop, with its catchy melody and lyrics.
