Robert Clark Seger, better known as Bob Seger, is a beloved American singer, songwriter and musician. He began his career as Bob Seger and the Last Heard in the 1960s and gained local popularity. In 1973, he formed the Silver Bullet Band, which quickly achieved national success. Seger's 1976 album Live Bullet was recorded live with the Silver Bullet Band at Cobo Hall in Detroit, Michigan, and is a testament to his musical prowess. Throughout his career, Seger collaborated extensively with the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section, which appeared on many hit singles and albums.

The song first appeared on his 1975 album "Beautiful Loser", which became the first of Seger's ten consecutive platinum albums. It was also included on his live album "Live Bullet." The single version of the song peaked at #43 on the U.S. Top 40, making it Seger's most successful single since "Ramblin' Gamblin' Man." The song has been featured in many popular movies and television shows, such as the 1985 film "Mask," the 16th episode of "Freaks and Geeks" and the 10th episode of the 8th season of "Supernatural." The song was also included in a 2009 documentary entitled "Journey to Everest".
