The Beach Boys - Short Biography

The Beach Boys are an American rock band that formed in 1961 in Hawthorne, California. The original lineup consisted of brothers Brian, Dennis and Carl Wilson, their cousin Mike Love and their friend Al Jardine. The band is known for its vocal harmonies, teenage-themed lyrics and musical ingenuity. They are one of the most influential bands of the rock era, and one of the few American rock bands to have maintained its commercial position during the British Invasion. From the beginning, Brian Wilson was the band's composer, arranger, producer and de facto leader.

The song was released as a single on June 21, 1988 by Elektra Records and quickly became a hit, reaching #1 on the charts in the United States and Australia. It was written by John Phillips, Scott McKenzie, Mike Love and Terry Melcher and was featured in the 1988 film Cocktail and on the album Still Cruisin'. "Kokomo" marked a milestone for the band, as it was their first top 20 original single in 20 years and their first number one hit in 22 years.
