The song Layla, written by Eric Clapton and Jim Gordon, was released in November 1970. It was recorded by the band Derek and the Dominos, which included Clapton.

The song was inspired by the passionate and tumultuous love affair between Clapton and Pattie Boyd, George Harrison's ex-wife.

Clapton was obsessed with Boyd and wrote Layla as a declaration of love to her. The song is a desperate plea for her to leave her husband and join him.

Boyd eventually left Harrison and she and Clapton had a relationship that lasted several years. Layla became an iconic song, and one of Clapton's most famous songs.
