The song "Lola" by the Kinks was written by singer and guitarist Ray Davies. It was released in 1970 on the album Lola Versus Powerman and the Moneygoround, Part One. The song tells the story of a man who meets a transsexual woman in a bar and falls in love with her. Davies said the inspiration for the song came from an encounter he had with a transgender woman in a bar in Cologne, Germany. The song was performed by the band on their 1970 European tour, and has been covered by many artists, including David Bowie, Blondie and The Pretenders.
